On 1 April 2019 (absolutely no joke!), the EADT had the opportunity to auction off a few outstanding works to raise funds for the next exhibitions of talented South African artists.
Here is the official press release:
Ëscoffier is proud to host the coming together of several legends. For the first time ever Escoffier, Champagne, the legacy of Mandela and the Emerging Artists Development Trust come together in an extraordinary setting.
The incredible space high up in the heart of Hyde Park Centre will be transformed for the evening.
Canapes will be served and guests will have an opportunity to view art from the Emerging Artists Development Trust by some of South Africa’s most talented artists. These pieces will be auctioned live at the evening and benefit the art in South Africa.
Also on display will be Mark Peter’s photographs and prints. 29 years ago, Nelson Mandela was released from Groot Drakenstein prison. International photographer and veteran war correspondent Mark Peters took the photograph for which Newsweek held the press for only the second time in their history. One of history’s most sensational photographs became iconic.
During the special evening, Master storyteller Mark will explain the moment as well as fascinating insights into Mandela, his meetings with Mandela over the years, as well as the exciting period in South African history and global perspectives.
The evening will commence with the induction of new Escoffier disciples while an epicurean four course meal will be accompanied by select wines.
Tenor Brandon James and cellist James Clark have flown in from New York and will showcase their world tour numbers.
During the evening the art seen will be auctioned and the proceeds will go towards the trust and 10% will be given additionally to Feast Food and Wine.
